LG kündigt „Next Generation G“ mit Snapdragon 800 an

Eines der unumstößlichen Gesetze der modernen Technik ist, dass diese sich immer weiter entwickelt und diese Entwicklung nie zum Stillstand kommen wird. Daher findet jedesmal aufs Neue das Rennen um das erste Smartphone mit einer bestimmten verbesserten Technik an und immer wieder ist es ein anderer Konzern. Manchmal gibt es sogar Ankündigungen, ohne etwas Vorzeigbares zu haben.

So geschehen auch dieses Jahr wieder, nachdem auf der Consumer Electronics Show 2013 in Las Vegas etliche Hersteller ihre neuen Generationen an Mobil-Prozessoren enthüllt hatten. NVIDIAs Tegra 4, Samsungs Exynos 5410 Octa und Qualcomms Snapdragon 800. Letzterer dürfte nach den gestern veröffentlichten Benchmark-Ergebnissen der leistungsfähigste von den Dreien sein, auch wenn Benchmarks mit Entwickler-Boards der Hersteller mit einer großen Portion Skepsis aufgenommen werden sollten.

Macht aber nichts, denn einige Hersteller planen schon kräftig an Smartphones mit den neusten Prozessoren und der beliebteste scheint der Snapdragon 800 zu werden. Immerhin setzt nur Samsung vereinzelt auf den Exynos 5410 und vom Tegra 4 haben wir auch eher weniger etwas gehört und wenn dann nur für Tablets. Bei Smartphones ist nach wie vor die Snapdragon-Familie der beliebteste Prozessor. So beliebt, dass eingangs angesprochenes Wettrennen bereits in vollem Gange ist und LG dieses Mal besonders vorprescht.

 

Rennen um den ersten Platz

Denn zusammen mit Qualcomm hat der südkoreanische Konzern LG heute per Pressemitteilung die „nächste G-Serie“ angekündigt (Optimus wird für die Top-Modelle gerüchteweise eingestellt), welche durchgehend vom Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 Quadcore angetrieben werden wird. Ohne dabei explizit auf ein bestimmtes Smartphone einzugehen, dürfte es sich dabei um das LG G2 handeln, den Nachfolger des Optimus G. Möglicherweise arbeitet LG sogar bereits an weiteren Smartphones der G-Serie, da explizit von mehreren Geräten die Rede ist. Möglicherweise arbeitet LG bereits am Nachfolger des Optimus G Pro und des Optimus Vu, wobei letzteres eher ein Flop gewesen zu sein scheint.

Übrigens ist die Ankündigung von LG gestern dahingehend aussagekräftig, da Samsung sein Galaxy S4 mit Snapdragon 800 und LTE-Advanced wohl demnächst offiziell für den südkoreanischen Heimatmarkt ankündigen wird. Heute findet schließlich in London ein Presse-Event von Samsung statt, dort könnte das Gerät durchaus neben der Galaxy NX System-Kamera vorgestellt werden und Sony Mobile wird ebenfalls in wenigen Tagen das Xperia Z Ultra mit Snapdragon 800 vorstellen. Nur das LG den Weg von Sony geht und etwas ankündigt ohne es in Bildern zeigen zu können, ist eventuell nicht gerade klug gewesen.

LG’s G series device powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processors will redefine the smartphone experience through stunning performance, rich graphics and outstanding battery efficiency. Capable of carrier aggregation, the Snapdragon 800 processor is designed to allow LTE to be even faster by maximizing spectrum bandwidth to increase data speeds and reduce latency.

Delivering up to 75 percent better performance than the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, the Snapdragon 800 processor will feature many of the industry’s leading technologies for the ultimate mobile experience, including:

  • Higher speeds with Krait 400 CPUs in quad configuration to deliver greater processing and communication performance;
  • Enhanced aSMP (asynchronous Symmetric Multiprocessing) architecture for dynamic power sensing and control for peak performance per core and improved battery life without the use of specialized cores;
  • Fully integrated connectivity with a wide variety of communication options including 4G LTE Advanced Carrier Aggregation;
  • New Adreno™ 330 GPU delivering more than two times better performance for compute applications over the current Adreno 320 GPU;
